Soul Skate Documentary

Since 2007, Kenny Dixon Jr, better known as the DJ and producer Moodymann has been hosting skate parties in Detroit. Dubbed “Soul Skate,” this biennial event is the pinnacle of parties for this burgeoning – but largely unknown – subculture of rollerskating fanatics. All year round, they travel the country attending similar but smaller parties. Dixon Jr, however, plays a low-key role — demurring to his Soul Skate team, who host the event and with whom he travels to skate. This one, he says, is about Detroit and those with a love of skating.

Label Feature: Neubau

Young and brimming with attitude, Vienna-based label Neubau is one of the freshest labels to have emerged from electronic music’s recent contemporary-wave and dark-groove spheres. Founded by Florian Stöffelbauer, aka Heap, and Simon Heidemann in 2015, the label has so far released nine EPs by artists from around the world, such as Aufgang B, Karamika, Sheila Fleurator, MR TC and Alexander Arpeggio.

1 Week with 1UP at Revolver Upstairs

Having previously supported Martha Coopers book “Hip Hop Files: Photographs 1979-1984” in 2004, this year Carhartt WIP returns to present "One Week with 1UP". "One Week with 1UP" is a unique photography and art project created by the legendary New York photographer Martha Cooper, the Berlin-based photographer Ninja K, and the world-famous Berlin graffiti crew 1UP (One United Power). The book explores a unique bond between the renowned documentary photographer – who, since the 1970s, has captured some of the most enduring images of the graffiti and hip-hop scenes – and one of world's largest, most fearless modern-day graffiti crews.

Mzansi

Vast yet dense, Johannesburg sprawls further and wider than any other city in South Africa, but also packs more people in than any other. Earlier this summer, French photographer Sylvain Ali journeyed to the region, exploring its various pockets and enclaves, snapping as he went. Seen here is the result of his trip – entitled ‘Mzansi’, the word for ‘South Africa’ in the Xhosa dialect, largely spoken in Eastern Cape – with locals, young and old, captured in garments from the Carhartt WIP Spring/Summer 18 collection.
